Hiding something, even an app on your phone or tablet is a way for people to keep information secret or safe. An individual can choose to do that for a variety of reasons, in the case of hiding apps.

Somebody may have family members that don’t believe in privacy, for example. One way to preserve your privacy is to mask devices that contain confidential information or communications.

Another reason people can want to conceal apps on their smartphone is to protect from sensitive information such as financial data, business secrets or intellectual property if their phone is lost or stolen.

Some Android devices finally come loaded with bloatware that clutter the system. Such pointless apps can interfere with finding the apps that you use most often and can cause confusion or even slow down your computer if it is continuously running. Hiding these apps cleans the user interface and can enable better results on your computer.

The first thing you need to know about hiding apps on an Android device is that there’s no built-in way to keep your apps hidden. Which doesn’t mean you’re entirely options. Hiding your apps won’t be as simple (or as intuitive) as it should be. That said, one way of hiding apps doesn’t hide them at all.

Default System Method

Instead of hiding apps, disabling them could delete them from your App Drawer and prevent them from using device resources. Deactivating an App is easy:

  1. Go to Settings > Applications, on your mobile.
  2. Tap the Button that you want to disable.
  3. Click Enable, on the Device Info tab.
  4. A confirmation message is shown if you want to disable the device, press Activate.
  5. The app is disabled and does not appear in your App Drawer anymore.

Hider is another standard free (and ad-supported) option that will help you mask your selected apps from view, as the name implies. It covers itself as a clock, as a bonus. Anyone who has a casual browse of your phone would be much less likely to believe you have been involved in any sleight of hand.

Install and open App Hider, then tap the + icon to select an app that you want to hide from.

  4. When you see that you’v picked all the apps, you can save, and that’s going to be covered
  5. Go through the above process and deselect the app you want to use if you want to re access the applications.
  6. There are other launcher apps, the Nova Launcher suggests, which provides a similar functionality; in fact, hiding the apps is a little easier.
  7. All you need to do is press the specific device icon for a long time, which will provide you with the option to disable the feature.
